Who is Dr. Mark Westfall?

Dr. Mark Westfall is a practicing Emergency Physician with more than 20 years of Emergency experience. In addition to his clinical practice Dr. Westfall is a published author, accomplished researcher and inventor of the CPR Microshield (Patent #4,819,628), which he licensed to Medical Devices International. Dr. Westfall also served in the Unites States Army Medical Corps for 12 years, during which time he served as a flight surgeon with the 1st Cavalry Division. He introduced SynChart to the market in 2001.

Why was SynChart Developed?

SynChart was developed to improve the care and treatment of patients by facilitating better communication with healthcare providers. Initially begun as a personal health record management system done on a home computer and synchronized with an online database, SynChart has grown to over 10,000 subscribers and has moved completely online. Since its inception, SynChart has expanded its reach and capabilities to focus on positively impacting member organizations by offering a method to maintain confidential, secure, easy-to-use, personal health records.

What do other physicians think of SynChart?

We have heard nothing but positive comments from medical practitioners. All of the physicians who have had experience with SynChart love the product because it increases their efficiency, reduces their liability, and enables them to provide better care to their patients.

Is SynChart easy to use?

Yes; in fact, this has been a primary focus from the first day we started developing the product. We want people to benefit from using SynChart; if SynChart were not easy to use, people would simply not use the program. Therefore, we concentrated on incorporating a number of features to make the system as intuitive as possible and to simplify data input.

Does it take a lot of time to enter a health record into the SynChart program?

No, most individuals can input their initial health record in about 10-15 minutes. A complex health history can typically be entered in less than 30 minutes. We are confident that the initial time investment will produce the greatest return of any health-related activity performed over the course of a lifetime.

How do I allow my physician or a family member to access my online health record?

Any SynChart member can access his or her individual health record through a secure, members-only section of the web site. Through the account management feature, each member will have the ability to identify who has permission to view the individuals health record. In keeping with current privacy regulations, no healthcare provider should have access to health information without specifically being directed. Our method follows all current regulations and is HIPPA compliant.

Does the SynChart record replace the medical records in my doctors office?

No, but it can enhance the records that your physician has. While a primary purpose behind SynChart is to make it simple for you to share your health record in situations where your physician is not available (in emergency rooms or with school and group registration forms, for example), it can also provide your physician with important information that she or he may not otherwise have access to (such as treatments by other physicians or home treated illnesses). Also, if you change physicians, the health record you maintain with the SynChart program will allow you to share your health history directly with your new physician.

What types of organizations would benefit from this product?

Organizations such as youth groups, organized athletics, and programs for students traveling abroad are just a few examples of those who would benefit from introducing SynChart to their members. In these situations, there are often lengthy health forms that must be completed year after year along with registration. SynChart not only simplifies this process, but it also ensures that an individuals crucial health information is available anytime, anywhere.

Can the SynChart program be customized for member organizations?

Organizations will be able to implement SynChart in a manner that is consistent with their brand identity. For example, computer screens and membership cards will carry the organizations logo and colors. Custom features will also be implemented to meet the unique needs of member groups. Looking ahead, as the nations health information infrastructure develops, SynChart will add new features and capabilities.
